Your nervous system is in control, not your thoughts. And science backs it up.

Enter the vagus nerve. This incredible nerve is the bridge between your brain and body.


Here’s the surprising part:

👉 80% of communication travels from body to brain

👉 Only 20% goes from brain to body


This means that your body’s signals shape how you feel, react, and regulate more than your thoughts alone ever can. So when trauma lives in your body, it takes more than mindset shifts to fully heal. You might have processed the stories in your mind, but until your body feels safe, it keeps acting like the trauma isn’t over.



Healing Starts from the Bottom Up


There are two key approaches to healing:

1️⃣ Top-Down Healing – Think traditional talk therapy and mindset work. It helps change thoughts and beliefs.

2️⃣ Bottom-Up Healing – This is where the magic happens. Through movement, breathwork, and nervous system regulation, your body processes and releases what’s been stuck.

Both approaches have their place, but true, lasting healing begins in the body.



So, what can you do right now?

✔ Notice your body’s cues. Where do you feel tension or ease?

✔ Try gentle body-first practices—deep breathing, slow walking, or humming to stimulate your vagus nerve.

✔ Create moments of felt safety. Let your body feel the present instead of the past.
